LigniFlex®

LigniFlex® is obtained by modifying lignin with vegetable fatty acids, followed by a temperature-assisted curing step once the material has been shaped in its final form. LigniFlex® can be delivered as an uncured powder containing curing additives to undergo further processing such as hot pressing, or as an already cured component.

LigniFlex® can be used as an elastomer on its own but it can also be used to provide flexibility in composites, for instance as a resin in which fiber mats can be embedded. Indeed, LigniFlex® can function as a flexible support bearing more rigid layers in multilayer structures. It has also been successful as an asphalt binder for specialty applications where additional flexibility was required.
