LigniSol®

LigniSol® is a thermoplastic biopolymer that can lower the CO2 footprint of existing products when incorporated as a filler or co-plastic.

Lowering the environmental impact of thermoplastics

LigniSol® is obtained by modifying lignin with vegetable fatty acids and is miscible with most commercial thermoplastics up to a 1:1 ratio without affecting the mechanical properties of the blend and remaining thermally stable above 200°C. LigniSol® therefore contributes to lowering the environmental impact of various thermoplastic systems.

Produced in a one-step reaction that does not require high pressures or temperatures above 200°C, LigniSol® can be used as a powder or further compounded. It is compatible with common thermoplastic manufacturing equipment such as extrusion and injection molding. Examples of co-plastics include PE, PP, PLA, PS, PVC, PET, PCL. LigniSol® can also be used as a drop-in additive to plasticize a system or provide an additional property, for example hydrophobicity in packaging. It is also compatible with aggregates for asphalt-like applications.
