Composite panels
Several projects about composite panels resulted from a collaboration with Biosorbe, a Swedish company producing hydrophobized cellulose fibers for water purification. In particular, a 1.5-year project funded by Mistra Innovation focused on construction panels combining Biosorbe’s fibers with LigniSet®. RISE produced several prototypes that displayed very good performance regarding accelerated aging and hydrophobicity.
Another short project funded by Bioinnovation was dedicated to fully bio-based insulation panels for the transportation sector, with Kenpo Sandwich as an end-user. The resulting panels consisted of a cellulose insulating foam, newly developed by Biosorbe and RISE, sandwiched by 2 outer panels made of LigniSet® with embedded fiber mats. These promising panels will be further developed through new pending project applications.
